Your support of UOCO helps the staff keep our school community strong. I wouldn’t be volunteering with UpperNile Orphans Care if I had not gone, years ago, to teach in that rural South Sudanese village and fallen in love with the people there…especially the children. I am excited and a bit nervous as I prepare to depart for our school next month. I’ll get to play with the kids, meet with the Hand of Hope Community School staff (including teachers, cooks and guards), and do a few projects. They have just completed building the first dorm, designed as a very simple, semi-permanent structure.
We’ll be adding some features, perhaps when I get there, before they begin the rest of the compound build using Gloria’s Grant.
The director of the school, Philip, reports that the mosquito nets are dilapidated. It’s been five years, which is all those protective barriers can usually stand.
Might you send an extra $20 to help us purchase mosquito nets? According to the United Nations, more children die of malaria and other mosquito/insect related diseases than even from these horrific wars. Money is stretched, but we ask with hope.
